We all know just how important it is to work out and keep our bodies moving. And most of us don’t do enough of it. Especially with the kind of lifestyle we live today. Never walking, always hoping in the car to go everywhere. But, that’s not what we were built for. The human body was not made to sit at a desk chair all day then slump down on the couch the minute we walk through the door. We were built to walk for miles and use our hands to gather the food we need to fuel our body. Your heart is happiest when it’s working. With that being said, most of our hearts aren’t very happy. Most of us lead a different lifestyle than that anymore. So, we have to put in more of an effort. You must workout in order to stay healthy and strong.

When gyms don’t work out

Here’s the big thing though. While gyms are made to workout, they don’t work out for everyone. For one thing, some of us don’t feel comfortable working out in front of so many other people. And for another, they can be expensive. Even a small amount of money can be too much for some of us. And not everyone has access to one in their apartment or office. Hell, some of us don’t even live in an apartment or even leave the house for work!

And because of that there are gyms on almost every corner. You can even find a workout room in almost every hotel and in most apartment buildings. I mean even some big businesses have them. If they don’t, it’s most likely they offer their employees a deal at their local gym.

Not Enough Time

Then, the next issue is the time commitment. Just going to the gym can be a task. I mean, you have to put on your workout clothes, drive to the gym, get your workout on, drive back home, hopefully shower, Phew! I think you get the picture. And even if you keep it short, you’re looking at an hour or two, easily. When you have a job and/or a family to care for, you may not have extra time for that. And don’t forget you need to go three to five times a week. Even if you do have extra time, most people don’t want to spend it at the gym.

Why workout at home

So that’s why working out at home could be just the answer your looking for. Get a great work out right from the comfort of your own home. You can work out anytime you want, even if you only have a few minutes. Keep in mind it doesn’t have to be all at once. Do a little at a time, if that’s what you need. Possibly, go for a walk at lunch. Then do some sit-ups later. I mean, you can even workout while watching TV. Throw in a few crunches during that commercial break. It’s that easy!

You won’t believe how easy it can be for you to workout at home. There are some simple ways to make it happen. You’ll find that you can get a great cardio and strength training workout this way. You don’t even have to leave the house if you don’t want to.

Inventory Your Home

Otherwise, let’s start out by taking some inventory.

It’s time to take inventory. This is the first step to working out at home. You need to find items you can use to work out with. Take a look around your house. You can find plenty of things lying around once you start looking. I’m sure you’ll be surprised how much you are able to find.

Find Your Workout Space

The first thing you need to do is find your workout area. Now, keep in mind, you won’t need a whole lot of space. Just make sure you have enough space to be able to move around. You also want your space to have carpet or maybe even a yoga mat.  You’ll be doing things like stretching, crunches, and push-ups. When you’re on the floor, a comfortable surface can really help out. Most people find their best bet is to use their bedroom or living room.

Get Some Weights

Okay, the next thing you need to do is to find some weights. You can find these around your house if you don’t have any. Things like canned goods and water bottles will work great as small weights. And if you find that you need something a little heavier, then I say way to go. You can try using gallon jugs filled with water.

Using Your Furniture to Workout

Now let’s have a look at your furniture. Don’t look at me like that. You’ll find that your furniture can make some great workout equipment. You can use things like chairs and counters to do arm dips. Then use tables and chairs for elevated push-ups. And if you want a real arm and chest workout, try using your coffee table for push-ups.  Do this by putting your legs on it while doing your push-ups.

Old Workout Equipment

If you’re like me, you already have some old workout equipment in your house. Well, it’s time to find it and put it to good use again. Maybe you have some big items sitting around such as an exercise bike or a treadmill. Look through your movies and find those old workout DVDs. And I think we all have some smaller things just lying around collecting dust. Items like a jump rope, small weights, stretch bands, a stepper, or even an exercise ball. Whatever it may be, go find it. Now figure out a way to use it in your new workout routine.

Alright, now that we found some things to use, you can move on to Best Result Exercises When Working Out At Home right here.

If you want some ideas of equipment you should keep an eye out for. Here ya go.

Equipment to Purchase

There is something to be said for actual workout equipment, even though you can get an effective workout with just a couple of cans and a chair. This is something that you may want to keep an eye out for, although it’s entirely optional. There are some cheaper ways to do this as well. You can buy it used, or maybe find it on sale. Even better, you may even find one for free somewhere. You would be surprised how often people will give things away just to get rid of it. This is especially true if it’s a large item taking up a bunch of room. So look around, even ask friends and family members. You may just get lucky!

Jump Rope

Now, this one here is a no-brainer. Go and get yourself up a jump rope, if you don’t already have one. It’s a great portable piece of equipment that you can take anywhere with you. If you travel, it’s a must. A jump rope is great for your cardio workout. They are also very small and really cheap. So head on down to your favorite department store or bargain shop and pick one up!

Pedometer

You’ll want a pedometer if your goal is to move more. They are also great if you’re someone who has to spread their workout throughout the day. You can always purchase something fancy like a Fit Bit. But, you can even buy something simple. There are low entry level ones that you can pick up new for under 20 bucks. Don’t have the money to buy one? Then pick up your smart phone. Some of them have a pedometer built in. If not, you can download a free app to help you keep track of how you’re doing.

Treadmill

This is a great piece of equipment to own. After all, walking is the best exercise. And with a treadmill you’re able to walk or run whenever you want. It doesn’t matter if the weather is bad or if you’re stuck in the house. You can use it while watching TV, listening to music or an audio book, even when the kids are sleeping. Now I understand that a new one is pretty expensive, but there is a big chance that you can find a used one. Look around and check out some apps like Let Go and Offer Up. You may even find a family member or friend that has one they are no longer using.

Stationary Bike

Same thing goes with stationary bikes. If you are having a hard time walking or running, then a bike could be a better option for you. I know they are not very popular anymore. But, maybe you can find a used one. You can set these up in front of the TV as well. Or even bring your laptop and watch a movie or while you peddle away.

Weights

Keep an eye out for some weights. Canned goods are great to start out with. And gallon water bottles offer you a heavier option when you need more weight. But you will reach a point where you need more flexibility or even heavier weights. So you will want to have some, when you get to that point. If you check around you may be able to find some of these for free. It’s also a good idea to look for a set with removable plates so you can adjust and change the weight as needed.

Just Get Started

I know that it’s not always easy to workout. But it can be a big help if you make it as convenient as possible. And what’s more convenient than the comfort of your own home? The key is to just get started already and stick with it until you start to see and feel results. You may be pleasantly surprised how quick that can happen. This is one decision that you won’t regret the outcome of. You’re going to feel better, look better, and even sleep better.

Find your own routine and stick with it. It will soon become a habit. There will be days you won’t feel like working out. Everyone has those days. The trick is to just push through and get started. Try telling yourself to just get in one set of exercises. Sometimes I start off by telling myself to just walk to the end of my driveway and back, that’s quite a distance by the way. And once you get moving it does get easier. Before you know it you have finished your whole routine.

Just give it a try. Get up and get moving. I promise it’s worth the effort!
